Unchained is the sixth tape coming out on Nona. Following in the footsteps of our previous releases it once again connects people we’ve been working and hanging with either through Bastl Instruments or partying. The individual cuts thus form a close and intimate representation of our friends & family circle.
Focus was on providing dancefloor ready tracks that should accurately represent the sound we aim for when throwing our regular Rise Above event. The result is a very potent statement of mostly techno cuts from experienced musicians, producers, DJs and synth builders, that is as adventurous as danceable.
This set of 8 tracks starts with a dark synth trip from a Nashville based artist and Elite Modular Cases associate JNN, the sole beatless piece on the album. The dungeon vibes proceed with the untitled track by Oliver Dodd, the head of Elite Modular Cases and member of the Detroit Underground roster where he released an LP last year.
The Bay Area resident Russel Butler delivers proper electro and techno groove. You might know his releases from Opal Tapes, Jacktone or CGI Records where he released his last twelve-inch „I'm Dropping Out Of Life“ in reaction to the Ghost Ship fire.
András Eichstaedt's track is the shortest and for some the most experimental one here. Anyhow, one minute and half long Hg80 is a thourough IDM exercise.
Goldwiener makes another ace in the line-up with his subtly humorous version of acid techno. You also might know this prolific artist as the Plastiq Phantom, from his band World Gang or other projects mostly released on his indie label Imputor? he established in 1999.
Next track and the only contribution from the Bastl crew is Plast's minimalistic and noisy techno cut.
Kritzkom continues to elaborate her raw synth sound and heavy techno beat that sets back a sharp pace. Marine Drouan is a musician and a graphic designer living in Berlin. She produces under various monikers and has been releasing music on labels like Samplefreunde, Comfortzone, Martialfunk or Female:Pressure.
Abayomi, another Berliner, picks up straight where Kritzkom ended and adds psychedelic flavours. He is an up and coming producer and has been collecting praise with his killer, no bullshit DJ sets across established Berlin institutions – Berghain to ://about blank to Wilde Renate.
