Nona Records welcomes back London born, Berlin based producer Abayomi to deliver the first of three EPs on the label, with ‘Remembrance Part 1’ comprising of three hypnotic and emotive productions.
Owner of his own self-titled and self-released imprint, Nigerian / London Jesse Abayomi has fast become one of techno’s most promising and unique rising names of recent years. A skilful blend of raw Detroit techno and London’s harsher, bass-driven sounds combined with innate technical ability within the studio has ensured continued and consistent support from the likes of Ellen Allien, Ben Sims, Ben Klock and Sigha, whilst gracing the decks across most of Berlin’s most renowned spots including Berghain, Tresor, Chalet and ://aboutblank since 2017 alone. Having previously appeared on Nona Records’ 2017 Compilation ‘Unchained’ with his track ‘Duppy’, here we see the Berlin based talent deliver the first in a trio of EPs scheduled throughout the months
ahead.
‘Saturn’ opens the EP in authoritative fashion as cavernous kicks combine with harsh, metallic tones to deliver a high octane slice of techno, before swiftly delving into ‘Mono’, revealing rich, electro-tinged synths and sweeping atmospherics throughout.
Last up, ‘Aleph’ combines wandering, haunting lead lines amongst dreamy, hazy textures and deep, resonant percussion to unveil a classy yet powerful production that punctuates the package in excellent fashion and rounds out an exceptional debut EP on Nona.
Modular synth and electric cello combine on these unnervingly expansive songs with low tones that spill out like water from a tipped jar. Bandcamp New & Notable Jun 18, 2023
